This is a picture of 34 people in Haskell, Texas that either have granddaughters, grandsons,
sons or daughters serving in our armed forces. I think it was one of the best programs our club has ever had.

The Haskell Progressive Study
Club of Haskell, Texas met November 13, 2008, in the Haskell National Bank Community Room. This meeting was an Appreciation
Day to our Military and their families. The Club invited all family members that have sons or daughters serving in any
Military Branch of the Service. Veterans of former wars also attended. There were thirty-nine guests attending. Dorothy
Hartsfield, President of the club, welcomed guests. Judy Foster led a prayer of Thanksgiving. Connie Benton led the
Pledge to the American Flag and the Texas Flag. Nancy Toliver expressed appreciation to the families and introduced the Speaker
Gunnery Sergeant Juntikka of the United States Marines And Marine Lance Cpl Steven Pace of the United States Marines.
Lynn Dodson acknowledged each person serving our Country and their parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and sisters stood
and told were their special one was serving, what armed forces they were in, and where they were. At the close of this session,
there was a question and answer time and Gunnery Sergeant Juntikka took the questions and his answers were very informative
.He shared some of his experiences in Iraq with the group. This was a very uplifting time for the members and
guests. Forming a support group for our families and our troops was discussed. This could be a community of volunteers
from churches and civic groups. Donations would be needed to fill boxes for troops from all branches of the military, both
stateside and abroad. The boxes could be filled with a variety of donated items including letters from children, churches
and community organizations, toiletries, nonperishable food items, electronic games and popular "Don't Mess With Texas," stickers.
Morris Johnson led a prayer and sang America the Beautiful. Brian Burgess led the group in singing all the armed service
songs. The group was invited to enjoy "HERO" sandwiches, cookies and drinks. All enjoyed a great time of visiting.
